NOSY ANKAO PRIVATE ISLAND

The largest of five islands in the archipelago, Nosy Ankao has an interesting history. A transient location for seasonal fisherman, the one small village lost its entire population (of around 10) after they ate turtle meat which was poisoned by seasonal algea. In the 1990’s the island was used by ‘pirates’ as a way to avoid police control on the roads between the Sava and Diana regions of northern Madagascar.

LEMUR TREKS

Stroll through the forests of Nosy Ankao and encounter the Crowned Lemurs behind Time + Tide Miavana. For more species, take a helicopter adventure to the mainland for the Golden Crowned Sifaka, rare Black Lemur or Perrier’s Sifika.

ON LAND

Take in the breath-taking sights on foot or by cycle. Day and night walks allow you to to discover the forest, the island and the night skies. Watch turtles lay their eggs, of the hatchlings make their first struggle down to the water’s edge. On nearby deserted island, Manamphao, see one of the largest nesting terns sites in the Indian Ocean with between 40 – 90,000 birds arriving each year around June through until October.
